Здобувачі Міжнародного університету отримали призові місця на фестивалі екранних робіт «Дніпро-Cinema» у Луцьку / International University Students Win Awards at the “Dnipro-Cinema” Screen Arts Festival in Lutsk

The 17th All-Ukrainian “Dnipro-Cinema” Festival of Screen Arts named after Danylo Sakhnenko has come to an end in Lutsk. Over the course of three days, filmmakers from various regions of Ukraine and Dresden presented their works, while a professional jury selected the winners in different categories.

This year, the festival organizing committee received 114 creative works. The competition programme featured documentaries and fiction films, animation, television and student works, as well as creative works by children and young people. Filmmakers from Odesa, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Lviv, Kherson, Mykolaiv, Poltava, Lutsk, and other Ukrainian cities presented their films. Dresden represented the festival’s international dimension.

The jury included prominent representatives of Ukrainian cinema: film director and People’s Artist of Ukraine Yaroslav Lupii; film director, actor, cinematographer, People’s Artist of Ukraine and recipient of the Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine Oles Sanin; film critic, screenwriter, Honored Artist of Ukraine and recipient of the Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine Serhii Trymbach; and film scholar, screenwriter and actor Stanislav Suknenko.

The “Dnipro-Cinema” festival, which preserves the memory of the past while addressing the present, is named after Danylo Sakhnenko, one of the pioneers of Ukrainian cinema. This year marks the 115th anniversary of the creation of his film The Zaporozhian Sich, the first Ukrainian feature-length fiction film. Due to the security situation, the festival has been held in cities other than Dnipro in recent years. This year, Lutsk hosted the event.

According to festival director Valentyna Sloboda, “Dnipro-Cinema” is not only about art but also about documenting Ukraine’s contemporary history through the screen. Films created today preserve for future generations the image of their time, its experiences, aspirations, and dreams. “Our greatest dream is, undoubtedly, peace,” Valentyna Sloboda noted.

An important part of the festival programme was dedicated to the history of cinema in Volyn. This year marks the 105th anniversary of the birth of Anton Tymonishyn, a prominent Ukrainian film director and a native of Lutsk.

The festival also paid tribute to Borys Revenko, the founder of the Volyn branch of the National Union of Cinematographers of Ukraine and the long-standing head of the Volyn film studio. The beginnings of the professional careers of prominent Ukrainian filmmakers, including director Oles Sanin and cinematographer Serhii Mykhalchuk, are closely associated with the Volyn film school.

The participation of students and graduates of the Department of Film and Television at the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Arts of International University was an important event for the university community. Their creative works were included in the festival’s competition programme, receiving high marks and awards from the professional jury.

Second place in the “Student Works” category was awarded to the film Cotton Candy, directed by Oleksandra Briandina, a 2026 bachelor’s graduate.

Third place in the “Fiction Film” category went to the film The Collectivists, directed by Natalia Belinska, a 2026 bachelor’s graduate.

Third place in the “Animation” category was awarded to the film Melissa, directed by Matvii Hlazunov, a first-year student.

A Special Diploma for Best Cinematography in the “Student Works” category was awarded to Mariia Korovina, a fourth-year student, for the film The Spindle of Being.

We sincerely congratulate our students and graduates, as well as the faculty members of the Department of Film and Television, on these outstanding results! We wish them new creative ideas, professional achievements, inspiration, and continued success at artistic competitions and festivals!

For young filmmakers, participation in an all-Ukrainian festival is an opportunity not only to make their work known but also to gain professional experience, discover the work of colleagues from different regions, and feel part of the contemporary Ukrainian film community.

The 17th All-Ukrainian “Dnipro-Cinema” Festival of Screen Arts once again demonstrated that Ukrainian cinema is alive, evolving, and continuing to document the country’s history — frame by frame.

Festival organizers: the National Union of Cinematographers of Ukraine, the Coordinating Council of Regional Branches and Local Offices of the National Union of Cinematographers of Ukraine, and the Volyn Branch of the National Union of Cinematographers of Ukraine, with the support of the State Film Agency of Ukraine and the assistance of “LTV_pictures”.\
